The Owl & Monkey Haven is absolutely thrilled to have won gold for small attraction at the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence 2011!
To be a finalist in this category was very exciting but to actually win is fabulous! Thank you very much to Tourism South East for their recognition, it is greatly appreciated and we look forward to continued success in 2012.

We would like to thank everyone who has contributed towards the Martin & Lulu Appeal. We have just hit the £6000 mark and are overwhelmed by your generosity. We have already applied for Balai approval which is needed to bring Lulu over from France and have just finished the designs for their new purpose built enclosure. One of our keepers, Terri Lock is going to do a sky dive to raise money for the appeal, it will be her first time in a plane so keep an eye on the website for more details!!.

Our brand new 'funky monkey' play area for children over the age of six is now open. like the rest of the haven, it has been constructed to the highest possible standard with three large towers connected by rope bridges and platforms. It also has slides, swings, rope ladders, see saw, stepping logs and a fireman's pole. The play area has been built opposite our Lar Gibbons and next to the langurs so they can watch you play and swing like them!!

We are very pleased to announce the arrival of three new babies here at the Haven. Firstly, Beau the now ten week old Tawnny Owl was brought to the haven from Petersborough. Then Hannah our European Eagle Owl became the proud mother of a chick which hatched on Easter Sunday. This marks the first successful hatching at the Haven since 2007. Last but most certainly not least is the very celebrated addition to our Rhesus Macaque family. The baby Macaque is now just 4 days old and can be seen in its outside enclosure being closely guarded by mother Tammy.
The pleasure of naming the new primate will go to Director Antony Walser who won the employee sweep stake correctly guessing the date of birth.

We are very excited about our new Black &: White Ruffed Lemurs from Howletts Zoo in Kent. They are Mother Tornado and daughter Crotchet. Click here to read more about our Lemurs.

Get even closer this year with our new 'VIP Marmoset encounter' take the opportunity to hand feed these South American primates in an environment based around their indigenous surroundings.

We are very pleased to have won the Best New Business Award at the Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Excellence 2010. The event was held at Cowes Yacht Haven on Friday 26th November. The Haven has taken almost a decade to plan and build and we finally opened to the public during April this year, so as you can imagine winning this award means a great deal. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff, volunteers and visitors for their support and the Chamber for their recognition, it is very much appreciated.

Now 12 days old these babies are still completely dependent upon their parents. They spend most of their time on dad's back only switching to mum for feeds. As you can imagine this makes taking photos of them very difficult!

Djebra the red tailed guenon arrived in September and is quickly becoming one of the Havens most popular animals. He initially had a few teething problems with his provocative neighbours (Rhesus Macaques!) but he soon adjusted to Haven life and has now settled in wonderfully well.

Our Turkmenian Eagle Owl will shortly have a new name! As our newest rescue animal and one of our largest birds of prey he will be the subject of a competition we are currently running with local primary Schools, the aim of which is to provide our new friend with a name. A plaque will be erected naming the winning school along with their chosen name for the Owl.

The Lar Gibbons could not be happier with their new home. After a safe and well controlled move on Thursday last week they spent a few days inside to grow accustomed to their new surroundings and were finally allowed outside on Sunday.

We are delighted to welcome to the Haven two adorable baby Marmosets born in the early hours of this morning (10th Nov). Mother and babies are in good health. Watch this space for pictures and updates, or if you can't wait come and visit...we're open all year!

On Tuesday 28th September 2010 a planning committee agreed by 7 votes to 3 that we can keep our siamang gibbons!
